{"id":447,"date":"2015-10-30T22:28:30","date_gmt":"2015-10-30T22:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sgmlguru.org\/wp\/?p=447"},"modified":"2015-10-30T22:28:30","modified_gmt":"2015-10-30T22:28:30","slug":"ubuntu-and-nvidia-mysteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sgmlguru.org\/wp\/?p=447","title":{"rendered":"Ubuntu and Nvidia Mysteries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having tried to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers several times and always ending up with a black screen and various difficulties trying to return the X server and Unity to a functional state, I was somewhat surprised when I clicked on the <strong>nvidia-352<\/strong> radio button in the <strong>Proprietary Drivers<\/strong> (or whatever it is called now) tab in the <strong>Repositories<\/strong> window in <em>Synaptic Package Manager<\/em>, and rebooted right into a functional Nvidia session.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been struggling with this ever since I upgraded to 15.10. Everything I&#8217;ve read amounted to basically the same fix: purge any leftover Nvidia drivers, reinstall and reconfigure X. There&#8217;s been no mention of this, anywhere.
